Joint Health & PEMF

Bend. Reach. Grab. Walk. Run. Jump. These are all actions that depend on the movement of our joints. In fact every movement that we depend on and every movement that we enjoy requires healthy joints.

I have always told my kids “moveable parts are breakable parts”. This is usually in relation to their toys or sports equipment as a caution to be extra careful but this also applies perfectly to our body!

Pain. Aching. Stiffness. Limitation. Discomfort. These are all side effects of poor joint health. In my opinion the goal is to live as side effect free as possible and with as few limitations as possible. If you want to jump you should be able to do so pain free and if you want to reach that jar off the top shelf you should be able to bend your knee, step up onto that stool and reach your arm all the way up and grab it!

Unfortunately our joints take a beating throughout our life. Being so essential to all of our movements means being used, abused and depended on. Add in sports and leisure activities and they often don’t get the credit or attention that they require until things have gone wrong.

Thankfully nature has accounted for this overuse to some degree by providing sheaths for our tendons and fluid in our joints to keep them lubricated like well oiled machines. But as with anything as life goes on, sheaths can wear down, inflammation can occur to pick up the slack and the balance of fluid can tip in either direction. Insert trauma, an injury, over flexion and a lifetime of use and you have pain, stiffness, aching, limitations and discomfort.

PEMF Therapy is excellent for not only speeding up the healing of joint injuries but in maintaining healthy joints. Preventing injury or degeneration is always better than having to endure the healing process!

I have a personal journey with joint health and PEMF… Let’s look at my MRI pictures…

Picture

These small white lines in my muscle tissue indicate extra fluid that is “protecting” my overextended muscle. This translates into throbbing pain all day and throughout the night, making sleep very difficult.

(These were taken in Ukraine so you’ll have to excuse the Ukrainian medical terms)

That word that you see with the arrow pointing to the white blob says “Bursitis” - basically a sac of extra fluid “protecting” the injured site. This sac takes up extra space in the joint, limiting my movement and causing pain.

These two words say “tenosynovitis” - inflammation of the sheath around the tendon and “capsulitis” - when the connective tissue around bones, ligaments and tendons thicken, tightening the shoulder joint and restricting movement.

This is often known as FROZEN SHOULDER… and if you google it you will read. “Treatment for frozen shoulder involves range-of-motion exercises and, sometimes, corticosteroids and numbing medications injected into the joint capsule. In a small percentage of cases, arthroscopic surgery may be indicated to loosen the joint capsule so that it can move more freely.”

I suffered with this injury for a year and a half trying every conventional medical treatment, injection, pain medication and exercise available...I drew the line at surgery and searched for something that would get to the root of the problem….the inflammation. Something that would attack these sacs of fluid that was restricting my movement, stopping me from turning the steering wheel in my car, rolling over at night and reaching the glass in my kitchen cupboard.

PEMF was the answer

PEMF provides the low frequency that our cells are looking for and actively responding to. When our cells respond with energy production this energy is transferred into the rest of our body. Blood flow is increased and inflammation is reduced. With a reduction in inflammation, connective tissue is restored to its original size and fluid in the tendon sheath is reduced. This translates into decreased pain and increased range of motion.

PEMF isn’t a pill, healing doesn’t happen overnight, it's cumulative… but encouraging a process that is natural to our body means that our body can heal itself without side effects. There is no better method of healing than allowing the body to get it done naturally. PEMF is a compliment to our natural energetic frequency, encouraging the body by providing a clean energy frequency that it can respond to and use for it’s recovery.

Fast forward… 3 years later I am fully recovered (and have been for over a year). Pain free with a full range of motion and living my life without restriction, medical intervention or limitations on what my shoulder can or should do. This is my journey with joint health and PEMF but you can replace the word shoulder with knee, wrist, ankle, hip, etc...any joint in the body. “Moveable parts are breakable parts” and this simply means we need to maintain them and give our body the tools that nature intended when it comes to healing.

With PEMF our movable parts can stay movable for life!

PEMF Benefits Multiple Sclerosis!

Autoimmune diseases are very difficult to treat. Multiple sclerosis presents differently for each person who is suffering from it. It's a difficult condition to treat for that reason. The symptoms and episodes are varied and can include the symptoms below:

  • fatigue
  • vision problems
  • numbness and tingling
  • muscle spasms, stiffness and weakness
  • mobility problems
  • pain
  • problems with thinking, learning and planning
  • depression and anxiety
  • sexual problems
  • bladder problems
  • bowel problems
  • speech and swallowing difficulties

These are all chronic symptoms that can be improved by improving overall cellular health. PEMF helps the cellular membranes exchange ions and help the cell work at its peak performance. This in turn helps the cells function. In Multiple Sclerosis, the nerve cells don't myelinate properly (myelin is the coating made up of cells on the outside of the nerve tissue to help the nerve signal properly). Depending on the area of the body where the nerves are sluggish to myelinate or where the coating has disappeared completely affects the type of symptoms experienced.

PEMF when administered as a low frequency device such as the Omnium1 and IMRS prime, numerous independent studies have shown that 8 minute sessions twice daily help with chronic fatigue symptoms versus a placebo effect. The gentle electromagnetic stimulation is very effective at helping the cells.

Doing regular neurological exercise like moving gently and regular sauna sessions or ice baths also help circulation around the nerves and helps the myelin sheath form properly and keeps episodes and symptoms at bay.

Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic condition that can be manageable with diet as well. Adding MCT oil to drinks or meals can provide the easily absorbable fat that helps the myelin sheath form, and keeping sugars and processed foods minimized in contrast to including whole foods into each meal. A healthy supply of nutrients is imperative for healing, as well as increasing cellular functioning. Healthy cells are symptom free!

Decreasing the intensity of symptoms and flare up episodes is the goal. The severity is varied, but typically symptoms get worse as time goes on after diagnosis. That can leave people unable to perform daily tasks and eventually lead to a wheelchair bound life. Chiropractic treatments, acupuncture procedures and other holistic somatic therapies are great at keeping the spinal cord operating without obstruction and helps the nervous system fire properly.

Keeping up a positive and research fueled healing journey is the most important key to success. It's always worth trying new technologies like PEMF mats to help with chronic and autoimmune conditions, and renting a system is a great way to see what it can do for you or someone you know that has an MS diagnosis!

What is chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)?

Chronic fatigue syndrome is much more than just being tired. It can sap your creativity, inner drive, and it decreases your abilities to move forward successfully in life, socially, at home and at work.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a serious, long-term illness that affects many body systems. It can be a debilitating and frustrating condition and the cause of CFS currently remains unknown.

This multi-system disease affects approximately 580,000 Canadians of all ages, according to the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR).

Another name for it is myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). CFS can often hinder your ability to do your usual activities. Sometimes it may not be possible to even get out of bed.
CFS is defined by two major criteria:

  1. Chronic severe fatigue for at least 6 months not caused by a diagnosable disease or relieved with rest and,
  2. At least four other specific symptoms that occur at the same time or after the development of severe fatigue (see symptoms list below)

Other symptoms include:

·         sleep problems
·         problems thinking, or concentrating (aka “brain fog”)
·         muscle and/or joint pain
·         headaches
·         sore throat and/or sore or swollen glands
·         flu-like symptoms
·         feeling dizzy or sick
·         fast or irregular heartbeats (heart palpitations)

Can PEMF Therapy Help Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?

PEMF therapy may help relieve the symptoms of chronic fatigue.  It has been shown to help restore energy levels, reduce inflammation and get people on the road back to feeling like themselves again.

PEMF also improves blood flow and increases oxygen to all the cells of the body and can result in better health. Additionally, PEMF helps the mitochondria (the part of the cell responsible for producing energy) function optimally.

Systemically, PEMF improves blood flow and the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood stream.

PEMF therapy is a cellular supercharger and can influence all 75 trillion cells in the body in one 20-minute treatment! That said, the benefits of PEMF therapy are magnified through cumulative treatment.  Rentals of PEMF systems are a great way to achieve this.  By having a PEMF system in your home it can be used multiple times per day, day over day to see the fastest road to recovery!
